1965 Jaguar Mk II & Jaguar S-type
The 1965 Jaguar Mark 2 model and Type-S embody classic elegance, space and speed. In its heyday, it was the fastest production car in the world.
Sitting in one today, with beautiful leather seats, highly polished walnut dashboard and door cappings and facia packed with gauges and aero style toggle switches, it is easy to see why the Jaguar Mark 2 was such a success.
With its 220 bhp (164 kW) engine driving the car from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and capable of reaching a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) on the then, speed limit free motorway. Accordingly, the Mark 2 enjoyed great success on the race track and was driven as a road car by many racing drivers.
However, the Jaguar Mark 2 is probably most famed as the favoured ‘blaggers’ getaway car, due to its spacious boot (for the bounty), room for five and tremendous turn of speed. Rear wheel spats were removed so that if the car were rammed by a police car, the bodywork would not foul the rear wheels.
