The Jaguar MK2 3.8 Litre model embodied classic elegance, space and speed with enough room for five adults. In its heyday, it was the fastest production car in the world.
Sitting in one today, with beautiful leather seats, highly polished walnut dashboard and door cappings and facia packed with gauges and aero style toggle switches, it is easy to see why the Jaguar MKII was such a success.
With its 220 bhp (164 kW) engine driving the car from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and capable of reaching a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) on the then, speed limit free motorway. Accordingly, the MK2 enjoyed great success on the race track and was driven as a road car by many racing drivers.
However, the Jaguar MK2 is probably most famed as the favoured ‘blaggers’ getaway car, due to its spacious boot (for the bounty), room for five and tremendous turn of speed. Rear wheel spats were removed so that if the car were rammed by a police car, the bodywork would not foul the rear wheels.
